Dorper sheep, both Black and White headed are known for their high reproduction and growth rates, hardiness in different climates and feed areas and their ability to adapt to changing conditions. These particular aspects amongst others make the Dorper breed a prime choice for low maintenance, high meat production and healthy lambs credited to the exceptional mothering abilities of the Dorper ewe.
The Dorper breed originated in South Africa with a mix between Dorset Horn and the Black headed Persian Sheep. The match was made so the product would produce a hardy sheep for more arid regions, which would produce fast growth rates and multiple birth rates. The Dorper is now the second largest registered breed, numerically, in South Africa and can be found in other countries such as the USA, New Zealand, Asia and Australia.
The Dorper has adapted well to the Australian climate and in the Bindoon hills where green pastures roam for miles, our rams and ewes are well watered, fed, and protected from pathogens and parasites because the climate is not too dry nor to wet. The Dorper nature is strength and reproduction, we just supply the land for them to do what they do best, and in return we acquire prime produce.
